Welcome to the Department of Biomedical Physics & Technology, University of Dhaka

Starting its journey on November 3, 2008 under the founder Chairman, Professor Khondkar Siddique-e Rabbani, this department aims high to make itself one of the centerpieces in the area of Biomedical Physics, Engineering and Technology. This post graduate multidisciplinary department emphasizes research and development aimed at delivering the benefits of modern healthcare technology to the common people in the Third World Countries like Bangladesh. The mission of the department is to create manpower for developing health care technology, to understand, install and operate sophisticated biomedical equipment in hospitals and to assist medical doctors in diagnosing diseases and preparing treatment plans.

Aiming for relevant and target oriented research, this department initially started with PhD and MPhil programmes. The Department currently offers Master of Science programme in two specializations: (i) Biomedical Engineering and (ii) Medical Physics  along with the other post graduation programmes.

The department stands on more than 30 years of R&D in the Department of Physics, which has already produced a few innovations like Focused Impedance Method (FIM), Distributed F-Latency (DFL) method  that have made their names known in the international arena. Universities and research institutions in UK, Norway, Korea and Singapore have taken up further work on these innovations.
